Who are you, and what kind of problems do you like working on?

I'm Jordyn! For the last decade I've been turning connections into opportunities across tech in recruiting, enterprise partnerships, and go-to-market. I'm drawn to problems that live in the gap between people and systems: how humans actually find each other, trust each other, and build together. If a problem involves getting the right people in the right room (physical or digital), that's where you'll find me building!

What are you building or working on right now?

Right now its all Hivin, a co-founder matching platform launching this September. Think less dating-app swipe fatigue, more "here's who I actually am as a builder." I'm the co-founder running growth and community, and I recently took over managing the codebase myself (for now) Next.js, Supabase, Vercel, the whole stack. In the free time that I don't have, I write a blog called Let's Take This Offline and work on my podcast discovery app, Podmae. It's currently in closed beta but will be up and running soon so keep an eye out!

What got you started on this?

I spent years watching brilliant people fail to find each other, meanwhile, the world was slowly losing human connection year after year. I always felt like the opportunity to bridge that connection was there, I just wasn't sure where exactly! It's my community push that actually brought this opportunity to me. I build alongside an incredible co-founder and some other engineers who are pretty much magical!

What's one thing that's changed your mind since you started building?

I have to say the biggest thing that's changed my mind is discovering that knowing a programming language, actually coding, is merely a small part of the SDLC puzzle. I learned with the rise of AI, understanding software architecture needed to be a priority for me. Initially I thought knowing how to code made me a developer, but in the words of a good friend of mine "coding was never the job, building was".

What's a moment that told you something was actually working?

When I actually created Podmae, my podcast discovery app, people actually started using it! I created this on my couch on a saturday night at 9pm and it took off. People were sharing it, using it, promoting it, etc. That was genuinely a cool experience because it validated my beliefs in building in public but also in connecting with others and relying on my network. Success is never achieved alone!

What's something you're stuck on right now, in any of your projects?

I think the most difficult thing for me right now in this build is sequencing. It's not just the build. It's also the content, the marketing, the sign ups, the release market research, getting funding. It's those things that go on behind the scenes! Sometimes these are small tasks but it truly is a path and I am understanding that even when those tasks seem small, they make up a very important part of a large picture.

What's one thing you'd want to share with first-time builders?

Just build it. Who cares if you don't know what you're doing? You will figure it out as you go and you'll be better for it. Lean into your network and other builders. Ask questions, share your journey publicly. Saying "I don't know" is the gateway drug to "knowing".
