Who are you, and what kind of problems do you like working on?
I'm a designer who builds and ships my own products. I'm drawn to everyday problems that people put up with because the tools are clunky, ad-heavy or overcomplicated. I like taking something messy and making it feel calm and simple.
Question 2 of 7
What are you building or working on right now?
One Design (one.design): 20 image tools that run entirely in your browser, so files never leave your device. Just launched with free tools and a Pro plan. Workflows is next.
SPARC (getsparc.app): a family planner for iPhone with a shared calendar, tasks, lists and photo moments, where each family member is a colour-coded robot.
Question 3 of 7
What got you started on this?
Frustration with my own workflow. I kept reaching for tools that were slow, cluttered or didn't respect my privacy, and as a designer I knew they could be better. Both products start from the same place: make the thing I actually wanted to use.
On SPARC, I'd just sat down to play some games when my wife reminded me we had parents' evening. Game over.
Question 4 of 7
What's one thing that's changed your mind since you started building?
I used to think I needed to be a "real" developer before I could ship anything. Starting from design and learning the build side as I go has turned out to be an advantage, not a gap.
Question 5 of 7
What's a moment that told you something was actually working?
Showing early versions to family and friends. They didn't just say "nice", they asked when they could use it and pointed out where it would fit into their own lives. Hearing people I know say "I'd actually use this" made it feel real, and kept me going.
Question 6 of 7
What's something you're stuck on right now, in any of your projects?
Getting people to notice. Building is the part I'm comfortable with; marketing and distribution after launch is where I'm still figuring things out.
Question 7 of 7
What's one thing you'd want to share with first-time builders?
Build the thing you'd use yourself, ship it before it feels ready, and let real users tell you what to fix.
What would make this instantly more powerful is if this wasn’t a million disjointed tools and instead of workspace of all tools, then as you add tools and scale the tools have somewhere to live, this would also allow a user to utilize multiple tools for the same artifact. Most importantly a centralized workspace could allow you to make an MCP so that agents could use every tool or multiple tools on one piece of work. A million different tools is super mid!
What’s actually mid is telling someone their Miata is mid because it can’t haul sheep. This is still evolving, but it’s already what I wanted: tools that work alone or together, replacing a pile of mediocre bookmarks. Sounds like you’ve got a big idea. Build it and share it with us.
Thank you. I've got a bit of contradicting feedback on this one as another user suggested I get rid of them as it makes navigation more difficult. I believe he was only partially right. The images reinforce the brand and make it more engaging, but my main focus was to implement them consistently without distracting from the main focus, which is to explore and find the tools available. There is a pop of brand colour on hover! ;) I do appreciate the feedback, thank you!
I honestly love the motif! I wouldn’t go the color route, it feels immersive and I love the green you chose. What I would consider though is when I switch to light mode it also switches the image to light versions of the same images, that would be awesome.
Thanks Jacob, glad you have the same opinion.
Yes very good point. I did consider it, it does go pretty contrasty on light and they suddenly pop too much. It will require quite a bit of work but I'm down to explore and see how that looks. Forget the 15+ other tools and features I got on the pipeline! 🤣
Awesome looking site, but fix the damn horizontal scroll, feels so broken scrolling this on mobile and broken horizontal scroll is one of the calling cards of AI slop / the founder never goes on their own website.
Really like the vibe of this, the illustrations give it loads of character! A little workflow builder could be pretty cool too. Something where you can do multiple things in one go, then save those steps for next time.
I appreciate the kind words. Spent a lot of time on the thumbnails, and it will require maintenance and thought as I keep adding tools. Luckily, plenty of attractions in the world. If anything, I'll have to resort to old wonders of the world! :D Funny you say that, a workflow like that is currently on the roadmap. Keep an eye out.
Thanks very much, not actually open-source but it does use several open-source tools. If you could be more specific about what sort of niche industry are you thinking of?
I've been seeing a lot of websites that have these massive grids of "features". not sure if this is the new AI generated web design, or just whats popular right now, but it honestly is frustrating to read through. it's an overload of images and text, and makes it hard to actually find specific data. At least you have a category filter up top (and search) Honestly the images add nothing to me, the animation is the same for each. I would almost suggest get rid of the images/shrink them a lot
Thanks for the feedback. Did you visit it from your phone? I can see how navigating through it hoping for a tool being frustrating. Like you said, there’s a search, and filters. Besides those, there are 2 other ways to navigate through, namely via a list, and a guide. The images do not in fact have the same animation. They are subtly featuring each tool and I took a good amount of time to make sure that happens. I appreciate the feedback. Will look more into it.
