https://screenshotpop.com/Question 1 of 7
I'm Nick! I've been a software developer professionally for about 14 years now, but I've always loved computers and coding. I can think back when I was a kid, using hex editors with old PC games to find ways to give myself infinite money, which is something I haven't quite figured out how to do in real life yet. I like coming up with tools to help people's productivity, or to either celebrate or enhance their journeys, be it across social media or their products. I also like creating stuff that my own kids might enjoy!
Question 2 of 7
At the moment I'm working on MetricShots and AWNA: A Wee Notch App. MetricShots is all about celebrating milestones and achievements. It allows you to easily create images which celebrate any metric you like. It could be followers on X, number of products launched, number of sales, or you can customise the text and can create an image for any identifiable number that's important to you. Its tagline is "You hit the number. Now show it off.". AWNA is a weekend project I gave myself for fun but then started taking more seriously as the days went on. It's "A Wee Notch App" for Windows, resting at the top center of your screen. Macs have had the notch fun for long enough! Within it are ten tabs, cleanly designed, containing a host of productivity tools. I'm at the point where I consider it 'finished' in terms of development before a general launch. I'm enjoying using it, I hope others do too!
Question 3 of 7
I started building with AI in January. I took out the Claude Pro subscription and very quickly found out it wasn't going to keep up with the ideas I had. Bumped up to the Max 5x plan, and started building. Came up with a few Android apps, including the obligatory budget tracker that a lot of people were making, along with two SaaS platforms; one aimed at kids to improve their typing skills, and another for contractors managing their jobs and quotes. I was excited about those, went and printed out flyers and joined local Facebook groups to advertise in and everything. It was at that point I discovered that marketing is a different beast altogether. Something I'm still trying to get better at! With MetricShots, you only need to scroll through your X feed to see people celebrating their follower counts and analytics screenshots. It's great, I'm happy for everyone that hits their goals, so I thought I could offer up an easy-to-use tool to make their achievements stand out a little more than raw screengrabs.
Question 4 of 7
You have to earn users, even those that show interest at the start. People that like the look of your product and people that like your product enough to use it are two different things.
Question 5 of 7
I got a sale on the day I launched MetricShots. I wasn't expecting it, so I was blown away. I might have jumped in the air. I had great feedback from testers in the days coming up to launch, and nearly two weeks on I have users that continue to come back who are using it in ways outside of "I got this many followers". I'm always delighted to see people posting their images from MetricShots. I'm trying to get more people interested by spotting posts about upcoming milestones and sending them draft cards that they can then tweak and export for themselves. For AWNA, I've had some waitlist applicants which I'm pleased about. To think people would be interested in trying out something I've coughed up over a weekend means a lot to me.
Question 6 of 7
I am cursed by the "that looks cool!" reply that goes no further. I've seen it with MetricShots and older projects I've worked on, and I'm seeing it with AWNA too. In addition to the other projects I mentioned, I also created STARFOUNDERS. This is a SaaS directory crossed with a video game. You can fly around a 3D galaxy, claim planets in the name of your product, shoot down asteroids and computer-controlled enemy ships, and run a ring race with a high score leaderboard. It has multiplayer too, so you can fly around with other founders. I had a blast making it. I had such high hopes that people would like it. I couldn't tell you how many times I posted about it on X, or in replies to people's "drop your project!" posts, only to get "looks awesome", and very very few people spent more than a couple minutes on it. I gave a few planets away to pals, and I had one sale (thank you!), but the galaxy seems to, well, drift alone in space. I mentioned it above. There's a difference between liking the idea behind a product, and actually getting users to sign up and help you build your product through feedback.
Question 7 of 7
It's never been easier to turn an idea into a working prototype. So find your idea, put together a minimum viable product, and seek validation before spending time and energy fleshing it out. It's easy to keep building in a bubble only to launch to crickets. Keep talking to potential users about what your product should do. Also, take your time and don't burn yourself out. Your health is more important than your code.

cool idea- but idk how often id come back to celebrate the wins - big or small
MetricShotsThat's fine if it's not for you. It's not just for the wins; you can make an image showing the progress made towards any numerical goal in your own journey, "275/500 signups" for example.

this is a very useful tool for a windows pc user like me. But my question is, will what I do with AWNA directly reflect/get stored on my PC, or does it have it own environment separate from the PC
AWNAThanks so much, I'm glad you find it useful! There's no special environment separate from the PC; it's just an ordinary Windows app. Things like tasks, notes, and your settings are saved in your PC's AppData directory. The 'Shelf' tab keeps a link to files in your normal folders and doesn't copy them. Screenshots from the 'Capture' tab go to your normal Pictures/Screenshots folder. Nothing you put in AWNA gets uploaded anywhere. Hope that helps. Do reach out if you have any more questions.

This is great. If I had a Windows PC I'd use it!
AWNAI really appreciate that, thank you!

bro this one is insane, I have no words
AWNAMuch appreciated! If you ever do find the words, please pass it on to your Windows-using friends and family 😄

"Tested AWNA and it’s brilliant! Bringing the Mac-style notch to Windows is executed perfectly. The 'Shelf' for file parking and 'Capture' tools are absolute game-changers. Quick suggestion: Add a brief interactive onboarding tour on first launch to help new users discover shortcuts (like Ctrl+Alt+Space) faster. Overall, a highly polished utility that feels like a native Windows feature. Great job!"
AWNAThank you so much! That's made my day. I wasn't sure about an onboarding tour when first designing, but I think it'll reveal certain features people wouldn't otherwise discover until later on. I'll look into it. Thanks again!

The video is cool but maybe it isn't needed as you have an interactive demo at the top, this would give the hero section more direction if you killed this cramped video, focus people on actually trying the interactive demo / read the hero.
AWNAI agree, thank you. The video was there when the interactive demo wasn't as fleshed out as it is now. The demo is the better representation of the app, so I've removed the video and the hero text gets to stretch out.

I think an image of the notch in each state for the top 6 then minimal points for the remaining 4 features would be huge here. Currently this section just looks like card vomit and it's hard to read through these features.
AWNAI've adjusted this area now. Some feature tabs are pictured, with the rest arranged as chips underneath. Hover over each to see the tab in the interactive demo's notch!

Holy heck this looks soo good now!
Nick | Afterimage has responded to some feedback for AWNA
This section is super cute! I think it should have it's own container to separate it better from the section above and below it, I'd also make all 4 animate.
AWNAI've made this area stand out a bit more now, and the sets of eyes all have their correct animations. Cheers!
Nick | Afterimage has responded to some feedback for AWNA
This section feels unfinished and really takes away from the clean design of the rest of the page.
AWNAI agree, I've taken it out. Thank you for the feedback!

neat product, how about it's visibility in full screen stuff?
AWNAThanks! With a maximised window (not fullscreen), the notch will go into a "slim" mode where it is a thin line out of the way of tabs, for example, and you can still hover over it to open. You can also set how long to rest on it before it opens (up to about a second), so it doesn't unintentionally pop open as you mouse along the top of the screen. For fullscreen applications, the notch disappears altogether until you're back out of fullscreen mode. Hope that helps!

clear, creative, functional - now what you need is virality - go find some influencers and offer them for free and good luck :)
MetricShotsGreat idea - I've been posting draft cards at individuals approaching milestones which is a good way to land them into the editor. I'd love for it to really take off with a big name giving it a push.

neat product, convincing from the get go, well done, I'd probably even use it now
MetricShotsThanks so much! I hope you give it a try, let me know how you get on! Two free exports to start 😃
Nick | Afterimage has responded to some feedback for MetricShots
cool product, love the idea would probably use it
MetricShotsThanks! New users get two free exports, so there's nothing stopping you from having a go 😃 I hope you like the end result!

Love the simplicity and thoughtfulness of the notch and the design. Stays out the way when you dont need it. Has everything in one place.
AWNAThank you so much!

Wow bringing the notch to a whole new level
AWNAThank you so much!
Nick | Afterimage has responded to some feedback for AWNA
I loved that you have a notch on you page to demo but please reduce the text let the product speak for itself pt a bunch of arrows there
AWNAI'm working on trimming down the landing page. I agree it's a bit wordy when the interactive demo is an accurate representation of the app. Cheers!
Nick | Afterimage has responded to some feedback for AWNA
Is there a mac version? And not really sure about how useful this is.
AWNANo, there's no Mac version I'm afraid, sorry! It's useful in that it collects lots of handy productivity tools in one easy-to-find quick-access place, so no need to hop about different menus or manage different keyboard shortcuts. Thanks!
Nick | Afterimage has responded to some feedback for AWNA
as a windows notch app builder, this is extremely minimalist and useful ahahahh, it's nice! got a lot of features and the UI is well made
AWNAThanks very much!
Nick | Afterimage has responded to some feedback for AWNA
what about a side cut too? or a diagonal one?
AWNAInteresting idea - do you mean positioning the notch at either side or a corner? I can note it as a future expansion, thanks!
Nick | Afterimage has responded to some feedback for AWNA
This is honestly soo sick! Congrats windows users, you guys get something cool.
AWNAThank you!
Nick | Afterimage has responded to some feedback for AWNA
It sounds cool at first, but the more I think about it, I dont see how this improves windows? The task bar does all of this, and the start bar too. maybe add a section highlighting why this works better than the built in windows feature
AWNAHey, thanks very much for the feedback. You're not wrong, you can do these things throughout Windows just fine. AWNA's just a minimalistic way of bringing all these useful tools together in an easy-to-find place. It saves on memorising keyboard shortcuts and going to different places for different things. I'll think about how I can compare using the native Windows features vs. AWNA in the landing page. Cheers!
Odd feedback! Having one centralized point for all of this stuff is super cool and windows generally does a bad job organizing things. Not that I use Windows, but can you create custom tools for this? Does it have open integration with apps? Would be really cool if it had LLM integration of some nature.

I'm trying to tackle how I get people into the MetricShots editor. I'm aiming for sharable draft links with OG images to show someone what to expect. Do you think this will work? https://x.com/AfterimageDev/status/2100171154413552080?s=20
